log food with ChatGPT

a ChatGPT calorie tracker that keeps your numbers somewhere real. add whatevr in developer mode, then tell ChatGPT what you ate.

needs a paid ChatGPT plan, set up on chatgpt.com in a browser.

log 2 eggs and toast with black coffee

2 eggs (149), toast (69), black coffee (5). That's 223 kcal for breakfast, with 1,980 left today.

read this first: it needs a paid plan and the web

ChatGPT only lets you add your own connector through developer mode, which is a paid-plan feature, and you set it up on chatgpt.com in a browser. it can't be done in the phone app. if you're on a free plan, whatevr still works as an app on its own, and Claude is the easiest AI to connect.

once the connector exists, you can use it from ChatGPT on your phone too. menus in ChatGPT move around often, so look for the words rather than the exact position.

add whatevr in three steps

1

turn on developer mode

on chatgpt.com in a browser:

Settings›Apps & Connectors›Advanced›Developer mode

2

create the connector

click Create, name it whatevr, paste https://api.trywhatevr.app/mcp as the MCP server URL, and choose OAuth.

3

sign in and allow

enter your whatevr email, type the 6-digit code we send you, and tap Allow. then switch whatevr on in a chat.

when whatevr adds new abilities, reconnect the connector so ChatGPT picks them up. the connect page has the screenshots.

what a conversation looks like

ask in plain words. ChatGPT passes it to whatevr and tells you what landed.

I had a chicken burrito bowl for lunch

logged, with calories and macros. anything the databases couldn't match is marked with a ~ as an estimate.

what's left for today?

your remaining calories, from your whatevr day.

log my morning walk, 40 minutes

logged: 40-minute walk.

what the app adds

a chat is a good way to log and a poor way to look back. the whatevr app on your iPhone shows the day as it stands: one daily score, calories and macros, widgets, and Apple Health sync. you can also scan a barcode or nutrition label there, and compare days with friends if you like.

the same link works in Claude and Grok, so you're not locked to one assistant.

questions

does the ChatGPT free plan work?

adding a custom connector needs developer mode, which is for paid plans. availability can also depend on your account or workspace. as of October 2026 that is how it works, and OpenAI can change it.

can I set it up on my phone?

no. add the connector on chatgpt.com in a browser. after that you can use it from ChatGPT on your phone.

how accurate are the numbers?

whatevr checks real nutrition databases first. when it can't find an exact match it estimates, and marks those entries with a ~ so you can tell. it's an estimate, and that's the point: close enough to be useful, fast enough to keep doing.

do I need the whatevr app?

yes. your meals are saved to your whatevr account, and the app is where you see your day: the daily score, your friends, widgets and Apple Health. the download is free and comes with a 7-day free trial, then a subscription. get it on the App Store.

how do I turn it off?

pause or remove the connection in whatevr under Settings, Assistants & API, or remove the connector in your AI's settings.

get the app, then connect ChatGPT

download whatevr and sign up with your email. then follow the three steps above on chatgpt.com.
